On the right side of this Yalta photo (just above the Black Sea) you can see an atmospheric phenomenon named The Belt of Venus or Venus's Girdle. It appears shortly after sunset or shortly before sunrise and can be seen as a pinkish glow (or anti-twilight arch) that extends roughly 10°–20° above the horizon. The effect is due to the reddened sunlight being backscattered in the atmosphere, which produces the rosy glow. September 2011
